On Simchat Torah, the day of boundless joy when we dance with the Torah as our crown, the enemies of life and the Jewish people struck. Yet even as they sought to shatter us on our day of joy, they could not extinguish it. For the joy of Simchat Torah is our why, our eternal reservoir of strength.

“Those who have a why to live, can bear with almost any how.” Hersh reminded his fellow captives: If you have a why, you can find your way. The joy of Simchat Torah is that why. It gathers the blessings of the High Holidays and carries them forward as light and courage, empowering us to rise above every obstacle, even the darkness of October 7th.

Please join us in expressing the core why of who and what we are—rejoicing with the Torah, affirming life, and drawing from the wellspring of joy that has carried our people through every challenge and will continue to sustain us.
